About this in an interview with Bild said German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, DW reports.
Steinmeier also said that today's events are destroying the last vestiges of trust between the two countries.
“The reasons for the conflict between the Russian Federation and the United States are becoming more and more numerous. It seems that the last trust is disappearing. If this continues, we will return to a time of confrontation between the two largest countries,” he said.
He also noted that it is incorrect to compare the situation with the times of the Cold War, since then “the world was divided into two parts, but Moscow and Washington knew where their red lines were and respected them.”
Current regional conflicts and the diminishing influence of major countries are making the world “much more unpredictable” for policymakers, Steinmeier said.
Let us recall that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia does not want a new “Cold War”.
