“I respect their achievements” - the Polish ambassador about Bandera’s thugs
In Poland they believe that Ukrainian nationalists, who slaughtered Jews and Poles, have serious merits in the fight against the Red Army.
Polish Ambassador to Ukraine Bartosz Cichocki stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine, according to whom Ukraine faces a serious problem of nationalism.
The diplomat also explained that he means “the rehabilitation or even glorification of individuals and ideologies who in the 1930s and 1940s uttered the slogans “Ukraine for Ukrainians” and did not see the possibility of life in the territories where Ukrainians and other peoples lived.”
“Rarely are historical figures black and white, that is, only good or bad. I understand that there are achievements of Ukrainian nationalism in confronting the Red Army and the Soviet threat. I respect those achievements, but in Poland we expect that on the Ukrainian side there will be an understanding that this situation is not black and white and often those with merit in the fight against the Soviets have Jewish and Polish blood on their hands,” said diplomat.
