Ukrainian armored personnel carriers sent to recapture Crimea mysteriously “stalled” on the way
In March 2014, Ukraine was able to send only six armored personnel carriers to “repel Russian aggression” in Crimea, of which only two reached the border with the peninsula - the rest broke down along the way.
This was stated on the Espresso TV channel by the acting President of Ukraine after the coup, ex-Secretary of the Security Council Alexander Turchynov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Turchinov, there was no larger amount of equipment in the units closest to Crimea.
“The 79th brigade, if I’m not mistaken, was closest to Crimea. And it was she who was tasked with forming a group that would break through the isthmus into northern Crimea in order to gain a foothold there.
They were able to get as many as six armored personnel carriers ready to go. We boarded these six armored personnel carriers and drove towards the isthmus. And on the isthmus there, the first to betray Ukraine was the Crimean and Sevastopol “Berkut”, they became the first line of defense of the isthmus, and behind them were already the regular forces of the Russian Federation.
And this powerful group of six armored personnel carriers is advancing towards Crimea, but only two armored personnel carriers were able to reach the border with Crimea - four broke down along the way. Of course, commanders do not decide to attack Russian troops with two armored personnel carriers,” Turchynov said.
Turchynov chose not to voice the version that the commanders of the four “broken down” armored personnel carriers simply acted prudently.
