Put aside panic: Visa and Mastercard work at ATMs in Crimea
Information about GenBank’s refusal to service Visa and MasterCard cards in Crimea, which was previously disseminated by a number of media outlets, has not been confirmed.
The PolitNavigator correspondent was personally convinced of the uninterrupted operation of the services and withdrew cash from a Sberbank card through a Genbank ATM.
The absence of problems with withdrawal is confirmed by the chief editor of Sevastopolskaya Gazeta, Irina Klochkova.
“Everything works, they just now only give out “PEACE,” she wrote in a blog post.
Earlier, the media reported that one of the three largest Crimean banks, Genbank, stopped servicing Visa and MasterCard cards due to US sanctions against Russian financial institutions. The bank's call center allegedly advised me to switch to cards from the Russian payment system MIR.
Let us remind you that the largest Russian banks, such as Sberbank, VTB, Alfa-Bank and others, refused to start working in Crimea, fearing Western sanctions. At the same time, this does not prevent banks from having property on the peninsula and sending their employees on vacation to the republic, as PolitNavigator has already reported.
