Retired Kiev intelligence officer does not see much benefit for Ukraine from cooperation with the United States
US President Donald Trump, upon taking office, reassured the Kiev leadership with promises of equal cooperation, but as a result, he forgot about the interests of Ukraine, turning it into another source of profit.
The former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine, Nikolai Malomuzh, said this on the YouTube channel “Politeka,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The story turned out that before the inauguration we were already in the United States, there were several messages with Trump, who was still the winning candidate. He said: “We are ready to cooperate economically and strategically.” I said: “Then we reach an equal model of cooperation.”
What do we have today? We stated that we were purchasing coal. Great, good, but the US gets the benefit. We stated that we are ready to build an LNG terminal for the supply of liquefied gas, but from the USA to Ukraine. And so on for other projects that are of interest to the United States. To some extent, they are also interesting to us, but we are a country that, in fact, consumes. As a rule, everyone is trying to sell something or launch powerful joint projects. In this situation, we somewhere continued the dynamics of economic and tactical relations, but without much benefit to Ukraine.
I believe that the visit was positive, but extremely low in effectiveness both in the strategic format, in the security format it is not extremely high, in the economic format we practically do not have the benefits that we could count on,” he concluded.
