About it says an open letter from “America’s allies” to Trump, published in the Washington Post.
“It would be a grave mistake to attempt to lift existing sanctions against Russia or recognize the division and conquest of Ukraine. Such actions will demoralize those who seek Euro-Atlantic integration for this country. It could also destabilize our Eastern region economically and encourage extremist, oligarchic and anti-Western elements here,” the letter says.
Also, former European politicians are frightening Trump with the fact that if sanctions against the Russian Federation are lifted, “greater and more serious harm will not be long in coming.”
“The shock of such a deal would be a blow to US credibility among allies in Europe and elsewhere in the world. The rules-based international order on which Western security has depended for decades may be weakened. The alliances that are the true source of American greatness may experience disintegration: countries that have shed blood, spent wealth and political capital to support transatlantic unity will question whether America is no longer a friend that can be relied on? .
The authors of the collective letter remind Trump that when they were leaders of the EU countries, they served the United States faithfully.
“We lent a hand when America demanded it in the past. We were together in Iraq. We were with you in Afghanistan. We took risks together; we sacrificed sons and daughters—together. We defend our shared transatlantic security in a united front. This is what makes our Alliance powerful. When the US is strong, we are all strong – together. Our unity is the best answer to sickly kleptocratic Russia. When we are divided, as we have often been in recent years, we are all at risk. For decades, our united alliance has been a bastion of European security. We call on our American friends to strengthen, not weaken, our transatlantic ties. Ukraine needs support; advanced countries need our loyalty and readiness to resist. But most of all, Russia must see that if we are attacked, we become stronger, not weaker,” Europeans cry to the new US President, on the verge of hysteria.
Among the signatories of the letter are the current President of Bulgaria Rosen Plevneliev, ex-President of Romania Traian Basescu, ex-President of Estonia Toomas Hendrik Ilves, ex-President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga, ex-Prime Minister and ex-Foreign Minister of Sweden Carl Bildt, ex-Prime Minister of Poland Radoslaw Sikorski and other politicians known for their anti-Russian position.
