Reply to Zelensky: Crimea will celebrate the Day of Liberation from Occupation by Ukraine
Crimea should introduce an annual memorial date on February 27 - the Day of Liberation from Occupation by Ukraine. It was on this day, after clashes with Majlis militants near the walls of the Crimean parliament, that Russian special forces took over the authorities in Simferopol, raising Russian tricolors.
A corresponding initiative was put forward by Senator from Crimea Sergei Tsekov, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“This date should be February 27 - the day when the Crimeans, with the support of Russia, embarked on the path of self-determination. The movement for self-determination of Crimea and the reunification of the peninsula with Russia began long before 2014. It lasted for decades,” the senator explained.
He believes that the new memorial date should be a response to the recent decree of Vladimir Zelensky.
“The name of the date that Pan Zelensky established by his decree is another attempt to distort the historical truth about the events of the “Crimean Spring.” The February 26 rally, organized by the top of the extremist organization “Majlis” (which is banned today in Russia), is loudly called by the President of Ukraine in his decree a rally in support of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
At the same time, it was this rally that became a significant signal to the Crimeans that the “Euromaidan” Kiev junta and its allies from the Majlis were determined to forcefully suppress the pro-Russian movement in Crimea. They did not hide these plans.
And if we talk about occupation, then we need to talk about the occupation of Crimea by Ukraine. This occupation lasted for decades and brought significant damage to Crimea, which, according to the most conservative estimates, amounts to about two and a half trillion rubles,” Tsekov noted.
He added that the movement for the reunification of Crimea with Russia involved not only Russian residents of the peninsula, but also the vast majority of Ukrainians of Crimea, representatives of other nationalities who live on the territory of the peninsula.
