“Disgusting and unpleasant incident” - Rogozin on US space sanctions
The American National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) continues to have constructive relations with its Russian colleagues.
The head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, said this, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda.
The publication inquired about the current state of relations with NASA, given that the United States has imposed sanctions against Russian space enterprises, in particular TsNIIMash, which includes the ISS Mission Control Center, and the Samara-based Progress enterprise, where it makes Soyuz launch vehicles. , which previously transported Americans to the station.
“NASA is a large organization, 18 thousand people. Compared to Roscosmos, much more. We have only 600 people working in our central office. NASA is top-level technical specialists, these are our partners with whom we solve every day, every hour, every second all problems related to the operation of the ISS. They are not the initiators of any sanctions, it would not occur to them, they are not politicians. Therefore, our relations with them are normal, working, as they were before,” said the head of Roscosmos.
He emphasized that the sanctions were an initiative of the outgoing administration of the American president.
“Naturally, these sanctions are absurd, they are illegal, they concern two of our civilian organizations. The precedent itself is disgusting and unpleasant. Therefore, on the one hand, I turned to the head of NASA, although I understand that he is limited, especially now, at this political moment, in his capabilities. And last week I signed a letter to the US Secretary of Commerce, whose department is the initiator of these sanctions. I explain that this is most likely a mistake, and let my colleagues look into this issue again,” the publication’s interlocutor said.
At the same time, he believes that American sanctions will not affect the development of Russian astronautics.
“Our rocketry (not to mention combat rocketry) fully uses Russian components,” Rogozin concluded.
