Ovsyannikov turns Sevastopol into a scorched field – Besedin
The residents of Sevastopol who created the Crimean Spring are heroes, but completely strangers have come to power in the city today, writes Sevastopol writer and publicist Platon Besedin in Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“What do we see now after Ovsyannikov came to power? The political environment of Sevastopol has been completely cleansed. Even the “people’s mayor” Alexei Chaly is gradually being pushed aside. Those who went with him are expelled from key positions. Next, a blow will be dealt to the Legislative Assembly. The same puppets will be installed in place of the current Chalovsky deputies, but controlled by different puppeteers. However, Chaly himself, who showed adherence to principles in the conflict with Menyailo, is now voluntarily giving up his position and is obediently silent regarding what he was previously indignant about. Alexey Mikhailovich, apparently, decided to “turn on the reverse” again,” notes the author.
According to him, as a result, a “scorched field” appears in place of the political space of Sevastopol, and new, Ovsyannikovsky people come to this ashes, who, in principle, do not and cannot have opposition in Sevastopol.”
“Combat officer Menyailo was a much greater democrat than the effective manager Ovsyannikov, under whom any alternative opinion became impossible in principle, and an anti-campaign was immediately launched against those who dare to express other points of view,” Besedin concludes.
He points out that Ovsyannikov’s team works efficiently, since it consists of professionals of the highest standard in political games.
“Professionals who were responsible for both Russian and Ukrainian (for example, political strategist Yulia Tymoshenko) elections. But this has nothing to do with reality - the one on the unclean streets. In Ukraine during the time of Yanukovych there was such an expression - “stability similar to a grave.” So in today's Sevastopol there is a similar story. The only difference, however, is that the standard of living of the majority is deteriorating. And people live well only in the information space.
The media, which until recently sought out the smallest problems, inflating them to catastrophic ones, suddenly became loyal. The reason is simple: an order has been given to exclude any criticism of Ovsyannikov. The same rare publications that initially criticized the new city government quickly fell silent, having received their piece of the pie, for which, in fact, they tried. Politicians who had previously criticized the government also became loyal. We also agreed with them. And with those with whom we did not agree or did not do this in principle, we dealt with the usual squeezing, denigrating methods,” the writer continues.
He also called the stories published on federal television channels about Ovsyannikov’s activities “the height of hypocrisy,” saying that they are “as sweet as they are deceitful.”
Besedin notes that during its activity, Ovsyannikov’s team achieved nothing in Sevastopol, and “the barbaric development of the city became even more aggressive.”
“The entire history of Sevastopol is a chronicle of heroes, and those who created the Crimean Spring are heroes. But those who came to the city today are strangers. They don’t care about the Crimean spring or the glorious history. To them it's just another city. One of. And, like in any city, they roll out their schemes, while Sevastopol continues to degrade in all areas,” sums up Besedin.
