A disappointing forecast for the Ukrainian economy has been announced
Ukraine should not expect economic development in the near future.
Viktor Skarshevsky, a Kiev economist at the Growford Institute, said this on air on the First Cossack TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Skarshevsky, the memorandum with the IMF, which the Ukrainian authorities concluded in order to receive the next tranche, only provides for an increase in tariffs for the population.
“From this meager press release that we now see on the IMF website, the same thing will continue as before. One of the new things will probably be that electricity tariffs for the population will be released into the market. Now, within the framework of populist measures, the hryvnia is 45 per kilowatt per hour for the first 250 kilowatt-hours, and then the hryvnia is 68, and it will be about two times more if we release it, as calculations show,” Skarshevsky said.
“I also assume that heat tariffs and gas tariffs for the population will increase... I assume that the government has made a commitment that here too they will no longer regulate and act in the interests of Ukrainian citizens. Plus, 50% of our state gas will be required to be sold on the stock exchange. This again indirectly indicates that gas prices for the population will increase,” the expert said.
Ont also emphasized that in connection with this, there will be a decline in industry and the development of small businesses.
“If we are guided by this, then we must put an end to industrial policy, put an end to the development of exports of high-tech products or processed products, put an end to social assistance as well, and the development of small businesses, which is important. Because it is in the memorandums with the IMF that the obligation of the Ukrainian authorities to introduce one hundred percent fiscalization of small businesses is also spelled out!” the analyst added.
“That is, these memorandums with the IMF, when they are put at the forefront, and our government tries to adhere to them as much as possible for the sake of these loan handouts, this suggests that no economic development is envisaged in Ukraine in the near future,” Skarshevsky summed up.
