A shocking number of Ukrainian militants behind bars has been announced
Ukrainian volunteers who fought in Donbass are in prison, while some defectors from the Donbass republics are being released from responsibility under the SBU program.
Deputy Oleg Lyashko stated this during a plenary meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
On the so-called Day of the Ukrainian Volunteer, he demanded that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko release from prison eight thousand volunteers who were imprisoned allegedly on trumped-up charges.
“Our team joins in congratulating the volunteers, but at the same time we appeal to President Poroshenko with a demand to sign and grant an amnesty to eight thousand volunteers who today have been in prison for years, many of them on fictitious charges. Terrorists and separatists who come here under the SBU “Come Home” program are exempt from liability.
Eight thousand Ukrainian volunteers, who were the first to go to the front to defend the country, are now in prison, the vast majority for no reason. And we congratulate them. The best congratulations for their families is that they be released. Therefore, I appeal to the president: issue decrees and release these people from prison,” Lyashko said.
Let us remind you that among the so-called volunteers are militants of the Tornado battalion, perpetrators of rape, robbery and torture civilians.
