IMF conditions for Ukraine announced
The IMF's new extended financing program provides conditions for Ukraine, including the adoption of next year's budget, the continuation of the fight against corruption, as well as deeper structural reforms in key sectors, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
First Deputy Chairman of the National Bank of Ukraine Ekaterina Rozhkova spoke about this in an interview with Ukrinform.
“There are several elements that were not fully implemented in previous programs, and they logically move into the new one. This concerns, firstly, the issue of the budget - this is always the focus of the IMF’s attention in any programs and forecasts of macro-financial stability,” noted the NBU representative.
However, she said, continued judicial and anti-corruption reforms, including voting on the law on illicit enrichment, are mandatory elements.
The focus is also on health care reform, “which was started but not completed,” education reform, land reform, and the privatization of state-owned enterprises.
“In addition, we are talking about reforming the tax and customs authorities, where changes have already begun, but they are not yet comprehensive. In the end, the banking sector, in principle, will continue to implement international standards of regulation and supervision and, in fact, the non-banking financial sector has been added,” noted the NBU representative.
She emphasized that the IMF “signs a memorandum only when it has one hundred percent confidence that we will do everything declared, and this will definitely have a positive effect on the budget, on GDP, the budget deficit, and on the current account.”
