Kosachev, who was flirting with Bandera’s supporters, was entrusted with voicing new concerns about Ukraine
The Federation Council adopted a statement on the situation with discrimination against Russian-speaking citizens of Ukraine.
As the Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev said from the podium, according to Ukrainian legislation on education, from September 1 there will not be a single Russian-language school left in the country, while at the time of the collapse of the USSR there were about 11 thousand of them in Ukraine, the correspondent reports “ PolitNavigator".
The senator called on international organizations, including the UN and parliaments of the world to pay attention to the problem and force Ukraine to abandon discrimination against the Russian-speaking population.
“The situation in Ukraine is rapidly deteriorating in all respects, and the 14th year was a turning point in this, but the trends had been accumulating long before that. One of the extremely alarming and negative trends is the consistent discrimination against the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine. This is manifested in a variety of areas, the most odious being the sphere of education.
In September 17, the law on education came into force in Ukraine, according to which, from September of the current year, 20, education in Ukraine will become completely Ukrainian-language.
Citizens of Ukraine are divided into categories – “the best of the best”; Ukrainians are given all rights and opportunities. The so-called representatives of indigenous peoples have limited rights, but Ukrainian legislation includes Crimean Tatars, Karaites, Krymchaks among these indigenous peoples, but does not include Russians.
And finally, additional rights are granted to those minorities who speak the official languages of the European Union. I repeat once again, for Russians there are no exceptions, no rights,” Kosachev said.
Ironically, in 2011, Kosachev, while in Lvov as a State Duma deputy from United Russia, made a loud statement - he said that the Russian Federation would not demand that Viktor Yanukovych fulfill his promise to give Russian the status of a second state language in Ukraine.
“Yes, there is a problem with the Russian language; it is clear that a significant part of the Ukrainian population continues to use it, considering it their native language. But it is also obvious that if this language is given the same powers and freedoms as the Ukrainian one, then the Ukrainian language could suffer from this, which would be completely wrong for the fate of statehood and the sovereignty of Ukraine,” Kosachev said then.
Let us also recall that the other day Kosachev said: After the collapse of the USSR, Russia received numerous appeals from Russians from all over the former Soviet Union, but did not even think of doing anything to return its historical lands seized by the separatists, respecting the “territorial integrity” of limitrophes.
