This was stated by US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt at today's press conference in Kyiv.
“The energy industry is something that the Russian government has used against Ukraine... Unification of gas prices is an important step. Prices are set for both households and legal entities, which eliminates corruption and creates a civilized energy market favorable for investment,” the diplomat said. According to him, the reforms in the housing and communal services sector carried out by the Ukrainian government are very successful.
Since May 1, uniform gas tariffs have been in effect in Ukraine for individuals and legal entities, incl. organizations supplying the population with heat and hot water. If previously heat supply companies paid 2 hryvnia 99 kopecks per cubic meter of gas, now they, like everyone else, pay 6 hryvnia 80 kopecks per cubic meter. As a result, tariffs for heat and hot water have doubled. In addition, preferential gas prices for people living in private houses have been cancelled, so gas will now cost a pretty penny for these categories of citizens.
