The agreements between the United States and Germany, which allow the completion of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine, can be compared to the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, dividing spheres of influence in Europe on the eve of World War II.

The former head of the parliamentary committee on foreign affairs, ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, Anna Gopko, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to Gopko, Ukraine’s Western partners have concluded agreements behind its back that do not give it any guarantees.

“This agreement happened behind our backs and no guarantees are provided for us - no security guarantees, I mean the prospects of membership in NATO, no guarantees in terms of strengthening the defense capability of Ukraine - billions to strengthen our armed forces in the event of a real invasion. Why did Russia gather troops? Not just to blackmail the collective West. We have not heard any financial compensation or billions of US dollars,” the politician said.

“It’s sad to watch how a kind of Ribbentrop-Molotov pact is happening now before our eyes, when we have not heard any specifics about what Ukraine will receive in return if Nord Stream 2 is completed,” Gopko said.

Let us remind you that it became known earlier that Germany and the USA reached a compromise on SP-2. The essence of the compromise voiced by the State Department boils down to the following: the Americans will stop opposing the completion of the pipeline, and Berlin will be obliged to seek an extension of the contract for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine for another ten years after 2024.

Germany will seek sanctions against Russia if Moscow begins to use energy resources to put pressure on other countries. Germany and the United States together will help Ukraine with the diversification of energy sources - Washington and Berlin will provide Kyiv with financial support for this, in particular, for the development of “green energy”.
