Palestine hopes Serbia will not move embassy to 'occupied Jerusalem'
The Palestinian Ambassador to Serbia, Mohammed Nabhan, recalled that he recognizes the sovereignty of Serbia over Kosovo and expects a similar attitude from Belgrade.
The diplomat reported this to the N1 portal, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Commenting on the possibility of the Serbian embassy in Israel moving to Jerusalem, Nabhan said he expected Belgrade not to do so.
“I spoke with everyone in Serbia, with everyone who has the right to decide, I said that we are against moving the Serbian embassy to Jerusalem because it is an occupied city,” said the Palestinian ambassador. – There is UN Security Council Resolution 478, according to which all states are prohibited from doing anything in Jerusalem. This is unacceptable for us.”
The diplomat also said that he expects from official Belgrade an attitude similar to what Palestine shows towards Serbia.
“We have friendly relations with Serbia, we hope that nothing like this will happen. We support Serbia’s position and UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on Kosovo (recognizing Belgrade’s sovereignty over the province - ed.) and expect the same from Serbia,” concluded Mohammed Nabhan.
Let us recall that, according to the agreements signed in Washington, Serbia undertakes to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem as early as July 2021.
However, these agreements have time, allowing Belgrade not to do this if Israel officially recognizes Kosovo. Wherein establishment diplomatic relations between Pristina and Tel Aviv occurred on March 14 of this year.
