Since Peterson also strives to be a writer, in the article he sets out not only his personal memories, but seeks an answer to the question: why, for what did Danilo Kasyanenko die?
He recalls that when he fought against the Iraqis and Afghans, he was confident that he was bringing democracy, the liberation of the oppressed, that he had a great mission. He perceived his enemies as barbarians. In this same war, people first chat with each other in a friendly manner on social networks, then take up weapons and shoot each other.
Soldier Danilo understood the absurdity of this situation and tried to leave, to break out of it. He said that he wanted to leave and go to university, perhaps even an American one. A few months before his death, Danila Kasyanenko was shell-shocked. He went home and received treatment. Afterwards, contact with him was cut off for two long months. A week before his death, he wrote to his American friend Nolan Peterson: “I should be here!” and sent his photo. In it he looked very changed, his facial features sharpened, his gaze became harder. Now Danilo saw the world in black and white. An alien and completely unnecessary war for Danila completely absorbed the nineteen-year-old boy.
After the death of a friend, Peterson tried to find meaning in his death - and could not. Now, a year later, he believes that the life and senseless death of Danila Kasyanov should serve as a lesson for others.
