According to local media, a year ago local residents did not allow the monument to be demolished.
“We want to study how many Soviet-era monuments remain in our area,” said Nikolai Kostetsky, a member of the Sarnenskaya district council. – Almost every village still has memorial signs with five-pointed stars from Soviet times. Some of them are already painted or damaged by vandals.
Now, when the question arose about the advisability of its location near the Katerinivka correctional colony, the village chairman of Nemovichi, for some unknown reason, stood up for this monument. They say that the peasants and the prisoners themselves, who are in the Katerinovo correctional colony, are against the removal of this Dzerzhinsky.”
“If we want to raise the younger generation to be patriotically conscious, we need to remove such monuments. However, due to the fact that they are part of our history, they need to be collected in one place and let people come and watch,” Kostetsky emphasized.
In turn, local authorities call the position of the district council self-PR.
