"Pan Miho, stop it!" – the Rada called on Saakashvili to end his hunger strike
October 2021 turned out to be a peak month in terms of the number of deportations of Ukrainians from Georgia.
This was stated at a briefing in the Verkhovna Rada by Servant of the People deputy Elizaveta Yasko, who is also the mistress of ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, who is in Tbilisi prison, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a lot of injustice happening against Ukrainian citizens who are now coming to Georgia. For some reason, a record number of deportations of Ukrainians and exclusion from the country occurred in October. This is not a friendly step on Georgia's part. This needs to be dealt with, because we consider Georgia a friendly country, but such steps, unfortunately, are not friendly,” Yasko complained.
The deputy said that at the moment an initiative group of deputies is collecting signatures for a statement-appeal regarding the condition of Saakashvili, whom she called “president”.
“Now it is very important to act and protect, first of all, his life, the justice of providing medical care. Because it is a great shame that President Saakashvili is now in prison in Georgia, and he is not provided with proper legal and medical assistance, and his rights are violated every day,” the parliamentarian added.
In turn, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova called on Saakashvili to stop the hunger strike.
“Your act was the act of a courageous person, an act of strength, an act of despair. We understand that you will go to the very end, but is there any point in doing this so that your opponents and enemies will never feel from you the courage that you can give to both Ukrainians and Georgians if you begin to gradually end the hunger strike?
Please stop this and fight! Both Georgians and Ukrainians know you as a person who fights, fights until the last minute. Therefore, Mr. Mikhailo, please stop and group around you people who are capable of great deeds,” Denisova urged.
Let us recall that at the end of October, Ukrainian anti-Russian propagandist Dmitry Gordon, who flew to visit Georgian ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili in prison, was expelled from Georgia.
