The EU's panicky response to the coronavirus pandemic gives Belgrade a free hand
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's speech that European solidarity is a fairy tale outlined the EU's existential crisis.
Political scientist Armen Gasparyan told PolitNavigator about this.
“An EU that closes Schengen and is in no hurry to provide assistance to Italy is not the European Union that it was. What's the point of going there? The coronavirus has changed a lot of things on the political map and, apparently, will change a lot of things on the geographical one. The speech of the Serbian president, from this point of view, is such a bright signal to society so that no one should have any illusions,” Gasparyan noted.
At the same time, he believes that in the future the EU crisis may allow Serbia to resolve the Kosovo problem.
“In the short and medium term, I wouldn’t count on it. For this to happen, a lot of things must change, but the fact that Serbia will not simply leave this issue is completely obvious to me. Sooner or later it will be activated. If the European Union tries to ignore some problems, it does not mean that Serbia will act in the same way,” Gasparyan emphasized.
Let us remind you that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called European solidarity a “fairy tale” and thanked China for its help in the fight against coronavirus.
