The huntars are panicking: Negotiations in Minsk are the last thing holding back Lukashenko
Disputes between representatives of the nationalist regime flared up on Ukrainian TV regarding the idea of transferring negotiations on Donbass from Minsk, announced the day before Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN Vladimir Elchenko.
The initiative was supported by Igor Romanenko, ex-deputy chief of the General Staff of Ukraine (in 2006-2010), who confirmed that Belarus, as an ally of Russia, cannot be considered a neutral platform, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I support this approach. That's all in essence. This is not temporary and did not appear now; this position, unfortunately, was a long time ago. Perhaps this will be just a new stage - to change the location of the negotiations,” he said.
Retired SBU Major General Vasily Vovk also agrees with this position. He stated that Belarus is not a friendly country to Ukraine.
“There is a connection between the position of Belarus, which has always been this way. It has been a satellite of Moscow from the very beginning. And when the Minsk negotiations began, on July 31, 2014, it was also a satellite of Moscow, an ally of Moscow, and, by and large, was never a friend of Ukraine,” he said.
But the former head of the SBU, Yevgeny Marchuk, a participant in the negotiations in Minsk, on the contrary, expressed concerns about the refusal to travel to Belarus.
“The negotiations a little, I will say openly, are keeping Belarus from such relations with Ukraine, which could change dramatically when the negotiation process leaves Minsk. Because we know that Russia and Belarus are a single union state. Putin was there twice this year, Medvedev three times. Meetings, Lavrov was there twice and so on,” Marchuk said on TV channel 112.
