Paradox: In the West, monuments to Soviet soldiers are being demolished, but in Russia, memorials to the invaders remain intact
There is a paradoxical situation in the world - in the West, monuments to the soldiers of the Red Army, which liberated Europe from fascism, are being demolished. And in Russia itself, the memorials to the Nazis and their accomplices, opened during the reign of the liberal regime of Boris Yeltsin, are intact.
Senator Elena Afanasyeva stated this at a meeting of the Federation Council, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I draw your attention to the fact that while foreign countries are demolishing monuments to our victorious heroes, who really won the Second World War and liberated people from fascism, in the Russian Federation there are monuments to murderous invaders...
We are invited to mourn together, to give military honor, to reconcile, and, probably, in the end, the goal of these monuments is to make us forget. I want to say that these monuments were erected in 1994-95.
But our important task is to remind not only our youth, but also the youth of foreign countries, that back then they did not come to us to conquer us, but to kill us.
We, of course, are not in favor of constantly beating today’s descendants of those fascists and Nazis who mocked people who simply destroyed humanity. But we need to be constantly reminded of this, including by opening archival documents,” the senator said.
According to her, “the campaign to revise the results of the Great Patriotic War continues to live.”
“We paid attention to the state of our history textbooks. We have repeatedly raised this issue and once again ask you to draw the attention of our colleagues, especially in terms of studying the history of the Great Patriotic War. We came across the textbooks of our political opponents from other states. I want to say it’s very interesting that even in photographs foreign soldiers are depicted as happy people carrying rations and carrying flowers in their hands. And even the hoisting of the Victory Banner over the Reichstag, there is no Soviet soldier there, there is just a blurred image, you won’t even understand who won this war,” Afanasyeva noted.
