Paradox: military chaplains and drone operators cannot obtain the status of military veterans
Military chaplains and operators of unmanned aerial vehicles have dropped out of the list of registration specialties of the Ministry of Defense, and therefore will not be able to claim the status of a military veteran and the entitlement benefits. The status of clergy on the front line poses the greatest difficulties, since the charter does not provide for religious services.
Senator Sergei Kolbin, the former commander of the Sevastopol Berkut, spoke about this at a meeting of the Legislative Assembly of Sevastopol, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are working in this direction in close contact with the Synodal Department, the Ministry of Defense and other law enforcement agencies. We call this among ourselves “the question of chaplains,” because the status of the presence of a clergyman on the front line today has not actually been resolved. Those commanders who are conscientious will always find a place to perform ritual services, will always find a place to sleep, an extra plate of borscht, and I think that they are doing the right thing,” Kolbin said.
According to him, the issue of new specialties should be legalized. Moreover, a number of priests whose churches are located on the territory of military units are related to one or another military formation.
The politician raised the issue of UAV operators, whose importance in combat operations no longer doubts.
“We all understand perfectly well that the appearance of drones and quadcopters on the battlefield has completely changed the tactics and strategy of combat operations, so the creation of new military specialties is now overdue.
Semi-official centers are already being created where UAV operators are trained, and this military registration specialty should be reflected in a number of legislative documents and in the registration at the military registration and enlistment office. Therefore, we are working on this, I think that you will hear the results soon,” Kolbin assured.
