Before the start of the secret ballot, deputies from parties and associations loyal to Madrid, the PP, Citizens and PSOE, left the meeting room.
During the voting, all the deputies remaining in the hall took turns going to the ballot box and casting their ballots. The last to cast the ballot was the head of parliament, Carme Forcadell.
After counting the votes, it turned out that 70 deputies voted in favor of declaring Catalonia independent, 10 were against, and 2 abstained. The remaining deputies boyoted the vote. In total, the regional parliament has 135 deputies.
