People's Deputy and ex-governor of the Kiev-controlled part of the former Donetsk region Sergei Taruta stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel.
“I think this is dangerous and many deputies are concerned about this. I don't think this will work. Although, on the one hand, we have undertaken obligations within the framework of the signed agreements in Minsk and must fulfill them, but only on condition that the previous three points are fulfilled, which will indeed allow elections to be held entirely in accordance with Ukrainian legislation and under the control of our law enforcement agencies. Perhaps now? Impossible. If it is impossible, then it is better to postpone this topic until we have fulfilled the first three points so that the elections are held according to Ukrainian legislation,” Taruta said.
Let us recall that President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko submitted to the parliament the draft Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding the decentralization of power),” which was registered in the Verkhovna Rada under number 2217.
The project was developed and approved by the Constitutional Commission and transferred by it to the President of Ukraine in accordance with the decision of the Constitutional Commission dated June 26, 2015.
The project does not comply with the obligations assumed by Ukraine under the Minsk agreements, does not secure the special status of Donbass, and was not agreed upon with representatives of the DPR and LPR, who sent their proposals for constitutional changes to Kyiv.
