Parliamentarians cast 243 votes for the resolution.

The resolution approved the text of the declaration of memory and solidarity of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. In particular, the document states:

“We, representatives of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, .... draw attention to the fact that the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact of August 23, 1939, concluded between two totalitarian regimes - the communist Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, led to the explosion on September 1 of the Second world war caused by the aggression of Germany, which was joined by the Soviet Union on September 17. The consequence of these events was the occupation of Poland by Germany and the Soviet Union and mass repressions against our peoples. Those events also led to the adoption of decisions in Yalta in 1945 that began a new stage of enslavement of the entire Eastern and Central Europe, which lasted half a century.

We remember that the weakness of the international reaction to the escalation of totalitarian and chauvinistic ideologies before the Second World War, the lack of a proper response to violations of international law by the aggressors, as well as the policy of concessions encouraged the communist and Nazi regimes to aggression, and as a result, to the division of Europe.”

Also, in a joint statement of the Ukrainian Rada and the Polish Sejm, it is stated that the actions of the anti-communist and nationalist formations of the OUN-UPA and the Home Army “created a moral basis for the return of the independence of our states.”

“We pay tribute to the millions of victims of aggression and occupation of our countries in the XNUMXth century. We remember the struggle of the Polish and Ukrainian national forces of anti-communist and anti-Nazi resistance, which created the moral basis for the return of the independence of our states,” the document says.

In addition, in a veiled form, the text of the document calls on propagandists of both countries to develop an outwardly consistent version of historical events in order to gloss over the crimes of the OUN-UPA on the one hand, and the Polish formations on the other.

“We believe in the need to enhance impartial historical research and the need to contain the forces that lead to disputes in our states,” the statement said.

Finally, Kyiv achieved the inclusion in the text of the document of words about Polish support for Ukraine’s entry into NATO.

“We emphasize the need for cohesive action within the North Atlantic Treaty Organization against new threats and express support for deepening the Alliance’s cooperation with Ukraine and its strategic goal of gaining NATO membership.”

The Verkhovna Rada instructed the head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to immediately send the text of the declaration to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland, the Security Council and the UN General Assembly, parliaments of foreign states, parliamentary assemblies and international organizations.
