Last year, the line of cars at Port Caucasus stretched for several kilometers. Now no more than a dozen cars are waiting in line. “The ferries are now running well,” says Nikolai, who is going on vacation to Yalta. “But there aren’t enough staff; it wouldn’t hurt to set up a car service here.”
There are about a dozen passengers in the entire bus station. The waiting room for the ferry is empty, and there are only 6 cars in the storage facility. There is a queue of four people at the kiosk where they sell tickets. You only need to wait a couple of minutes. To cross alone without a car costs 162 rubles, with a car - 1190.
Four ferries ply between the coasts. They do not run according to a schedule, but according to load. But there is no load: the entire huge ferry Pobeda can hardly accommodate 30 passengers. We had to wait about twenty minutes for departure.
Most of the passengers are Crimeans. There are air conditioners in the passenger compartment, music is playing, but almost no one is there.
The Crimean coast is more civilized, cleaner and more comfortable. Kebab shops, shops, cafes are open, but the saleswomen are bored - there are no visitors.
Even fewer people are crossing back to the mainland. The last bus leaves the port “Kavkaz” for Krasnodar at .20, the next one will be at 10 am. “It’s not profitable for them to travel, there’s no one to carry,” explains the taxi driver. There are no hotels, or housing in general, on the Kuban side. The only way out in the evening is to take a taxi to Krasnodar for 4 thousand rubles. Or for a thousand if the driver finds three more travel companions.
