The Mironov-Prilepin party clumsily disowned the scandal with the dismantling of the portrait of Suvorov
The leadership of the party “A Just Russia – For Truth” issued a statement condemning the dismantling of a poster with a portrait of the Russian commander Alexander Suvorov in the Karachay-Cherkess Republic.
“In the Karachay-Cherkess Republic, cowardly, succumbing to false provocation, they dismantled a poster dedicated to the great, invincible Russian commander Alexander Vasilyevich Suvorov, whom Russia is proud of and admired by the whole world. Those forces hostile to our country, which were driven back by Russian commanders from the Kuban, Crimea and the Caucasus, are raising their heads. Their attack on historical memory and on the bright name of Suvorov is part of the attack on the unity and integrity of our country, on Russian patriotism, on the glorious history of our Motherland. We will not allow our history and our shrines to be desecrated!” – the statement says.
At the same time, the party kept silent that the initiator of the dismantling of the poster was member of “A Just Russia”, deputy of the council of the Nogai district of the Karachay-Cherkess Republic Adler Turkmenov. He accused Suvorov of exterminating the Nogais who inhabited the region, and said that the banner with him “outrages the public.”
Journalist Andrei Afanasyev believes that the party should publicly expel Turkmenov from its ranks.
“It’s better to do it publicly so that there is no temptation to repeat this in other places. If there is only “concern,” then this is a disaster,” he comments.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov also considers the party’s reaction to the demarche of its member insufficient.
“Someone in A Just Russia eventually reacted to their deputy’s collision with a billboard with Suvorov. True, he reacted somehow strangely. The secretary of the presidium of the Central Council of the party, Valery Hartung, first asked for the name of the brawler, and then expressed the idea that it was wrong to associate Turkmenov, in light of his political demarche against the Russian commander, with the party. Well, untie it! Why is he still a deputy from the SR?” - Kornilov is amazed.
TV presenter Andrei Medvedev expresses a similar opinion.
“I would like to ask the leadership of the A Just Russia party, what do they think about this? How does it fit with slogans about protecting the interests of the country? An excellent point for the election campaign, by the way. “We removed Suvorov,” Medvedev comments.
Publicist Edward Chesnakov found out that Adler Turkmenov, as the head of the local public organization “Union of Cinematographers of Karachay-Cherkessia,” won six local government tenders and twice received grants from the President of the Russian Federation in the amount of 2,5 million rubles.
“I have said many times that if someone is engaged in outright Russophobia, then most likely this does not prevent him from sitting comfortably on Russian state money. Good gentlemen, you will decide: you are either against the Russian commanders, or you are taking over Russian money,” Chesnakov wrote.
He predicts that the case with Turkmenov will intensify the conflict between supporters of Sergei Mironov and Zakhar Prilepin at the upcoming A Just Russia congress on June 26.
“On June 26, “A Just Russia - for Truth” has an all-party congress, and the rift between its two wings (“Prilepinites” and “Mironovites”) will only strengthen this case. For the “Socialist Revolutionaries” this is, of course, a test. Because we can go to the upcoming elections under the slogan “Vote for any party except the Party of Russophobes Sitting on Russian Money,” summed up Chesnakov.
