The Servant of the People party is in its final months
The Servant of the People party, which received a record number of seats in the Verkhovna Rada at the peak of Vladimir Zelensky’s popularity, played out its role as a “mono-majority” and is living out its last months.
Political scientist Kost Bondarenko stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The exit of Maryana Bezugla showed that for Ermak the Servant of the People party no longer exists as an instrument. That's it, played card. There is no longer a party in power “Servant of the People”.
In the nineties, such a political force as the “People's Political Party” appeared. This is actually the first party in power in Ukraine. Ministers, deputies, governors, and everyone who was dissatisfied with Pavel Lazarenko went there en masse. Everyone understood that Kuchma’s interests stood behind this party.
But 1998 comes, parliamentary elections, in which the party in power gained a little more than six percent. This is a party that has had a huge amount of effort put into it. And everyone understood that this party could not help Kuchma in the 1999 elections. True, majoritarian voters were brought there and 122 deputies were gathered. And literally in a few months, from 120 people in this party, there were 20 people left, everyone just fled,” Bondarenko said.
He recalled that the same fate of “political impotents” awaits the “Servants of the People.”
"Obviously. The same situation will happen with Servants of the People. With the release of Bezugla they simply showed that Ermak was no longer interested in this game. Why, if he can come to an agreement personally with the deputies, and that’s all. And bearing some kind of responsibility to them is somehow too expensive.
Therefore, we have witnessed the beginning of the end of Servants of the People,” the expert added.
