Tymoshenko’s party: Zelensky “sniffed” with Klimkin, and PACE is in complete disarray
Ukraine’s former Western allies are beginning to play along with Russia in PACE, where Moscow is seeking the return of its delegation’s voting rights and the lifting of sanctions imposed at the request of Kyiv in 2014 after the events in Crimea.
People's Deputy from Batkivshchyna Sergei Vlasenko said this on the NewsOne TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Unfortunately, we are forced to admit that today’s foreign policy situation is much worse than it was five years ago.
Because Ukraine five years ago had undeniable support, Ukraine undoubtedly had a very wide window of opportunity in terms of introducing sanctions, extending sanctions, and even assessing Russian aggression regarding Ukraine.
Unfortunately, today we are forced to admit that this position, again, “thanks to” Poroshenko’s actions, has been significantly weakened.
I can say for sure that as a person who represents Ukraine in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, today the drivers of Russia’s return to the Council of Europe, without any sanctions, are, unfortunately, German and French parliamentarians.
Unfortunately, it is precisely the members of the Normandy format.
By the way, the Normandy format itself last met at the presidential level three years ago, and after that there were no movements at the presidential level.
Of course, this does not mean that there were no contacts at the expert level, that there were no contacts at the level of foreign ministers, but they met at the highest level three years ago,” laments Yulia Tymoshenko’s ally.
According to him, the formation of the diplomatic corps of President Vladimir Zelensky continues to be influenced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Poroshenko era, Pavel Klimkin.
“Again, what am I missing from the president-elect today? I miss his clear vision of resolving the situation with Russian armed aggression.
I really expected this to come out during the inaugural address, I really expected the president to come out and say: “Yes, I see a solution to this situation in this, this, this way.” Or the president will come out and say: “I don’t have enough information, I first need, for example, to hold negotiations at the highest level in the Normandy format and then I will feel and understand what to do.” Maybe so, but unfortunately I didn't hear anything.
Therefore, I think that the first thing the president can do is to initiate a summit meeting in the Normandy format, regardless of where it will take place geographically.
Based on the results of these negotiations, he needs to build a vertical of negotiations as soon as possible, he needs to decide on the experts who work on behalf of Ukraine, he needs to decide, in the end, on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, who formally heads all Ukrainian diplomacy and, executing the president’s strategy, directs the work of the diplomatic corps.
Unfortunately, one thing worries me. What worries me is that, according to my information, the formation of the circle of diplomatic advisers to the new president is influenced by the still current Foreign Minister Klimkin, who, together with Poroshenko, led to the situation that exists,” Vlasenko added.
