Zelensky Party: Donbass will not receive any special rights
Ukraine does not intend to grant Donbass any special rights compared to other regions controlled by Kyiv. Kyiv interprets the Minsk agreements in its own way and does not consider enshrining guarantees for Lugansk and Donetsk in the text of the Constitution of Ukraine.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Foreign Affairs, Bogdan Yaremenko, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We understand that this requirement, some kind of special status, that is, some special powers, which are partially described in the Minsk Agreements, should be granted to certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
We are saying that any features of local self-government should be enshrined in Ukrainian law for the entire territory of Ukraine. That is, we will try to create general rules that will give very broad rights to local communities.
Not territories, not regions, but local communities. That is, not to be included in federalization - this word, in principle, is not in the vocabulary of President Zelensky, no matter how much you revise what was said... This is the phraseology of the Russians. Once again, we are talking about decentralization. That is, no federalization. We are not going to make changes to the Constitution to fulfill this condition,” Yaremenko said.
