Zelensky’s party is again justifying itself to the Nazis – this time for Davos
On Wednesday evening, two new scandals broke out in Ukraine at once - the reason was an interview with Russian journalists at the forum in Davos, given by the head of the faction of the presidential Servant of the People party in the Verkhovna Rada, David Arakhamia. Communication with reporters from the “aggressor country” is still considered taboo in Kyiv, where another party deputy, Vladimir Zelensky, persecuted for participating in a Russian talk show.
Moreover, Arakhamia allowed himself to question the success of the association agreement with the EU, the signing of which at one time provoked a coup in Ukraine and the subsequent civil war.
“Many neighboring countries are putting pressure on us, pushing us toward the so-called “harmonization of legislation.” However, I believe that this is not correct for Ukraine. If a weak economy unites with a strong one, it will always remain weak, playing by the same rules. If we harmonize, we could become the weakest economy in the EU, something like Slovenia,” Arakhamia said.
This statement by Arakhamia was immediately criticized by Petro Poroshenko’s camp, where the head of the Zelensky faction was compared with the fugitive Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, who in 2013 pointed out the unprofitability of the association agreement.
Zelensky’s party once again had to urgently justify itself to the nationalists, alleging a translation error and a phrase taken out of context, and also assure that there would be no change of course. “I am for an Association Agreement with the EU and maximum integration with European neighbors... There will be European integration,” Arakhamia assured in a special statement.
Deputy Maxim Buzhansky made it clear what will happen if Zelensky’s team continues to obey every cry of the nationalists.
“We signed something like this earlier, in the Association with the EU, it seems, as always, without reading it. And it turned out that we must bring the price of cigarettes to the European level, 6-8 euros per pack. Yes, yes, you, too, probably imagined these joyful queues to rural stores, where everyone takes out a hundred euros and says: “give me cigarettes for a week”... So these are cigarettes, the case, it would seem, is not the most difficult,” Buzhansky noted.
