Parubiy vangs: the course towards NATO and the EU will be enshrined in the Constitution in winter or spring
The Verkhovna Rada will be able to finally enshrine in the Constitution Ukraine’s desire to join the EU and NATO at the end of winter or in the spring, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Speaker of Parliament Andriy Parubiy said this in an interview with the Rada TV channel.
He explained that amending the Constitution is “a long process, so any revanchist forces will not be able to change it with the stroke of a pen.”
He called it symbolic that this week 321 people's deputies voted for the decision to send the document to the Constitutional Court.
“The Ukrainian parliament has enough power and strength to make changes to the Constitution. This is a very important and symbolic sign, which in fact fully reflects the mood of Ukrainian society,” said the speaker of parliament.
On September 20, people's deputies sent for consideration to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine presidential bill No. 9037 on amending the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the irreversibility of Ukraine's course towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy, Ambassador Alejandro Alvargonzales, answering a question from journalists regarding the impact of changes to the Constitution on the course of the EU and NATO, said that this is an internal matter of Ukraine.
