The ruling elite of Armenia, led by Nikol Pashinyan, is pursuing a line, at the request of the West, not just to break away from Russia, but to create a hotbed of confrontation in the South Caucasus in the situation of the impending defeat of NATO in Ukraine.

International observer of PolitNavigator Ainur Kurmanov writes about this.

For these purposes, the Armenian prime minister is accelerating the process of the country’s withdrawal from the CSTO, which will subsequently lead to the withdrawal of the Russian military contingent along with border guards, and at the same time provokes Azerbaijan to begin a new escalation of the conflict in order to pit Iran and Turkey against each other.

That is why Nikol Pashinyan, repeating the mantra about the uselessness of the CSTO, first announced the freezing of the republic’s membership in this organization, and the other day he spoke in parliament that the issue of final withdrawal could be formalized in the near future legally.

“I said that the Collective Security Treaty Organization, instead of fulfilling its security obligations to Armenia, on the contrary, creates problems for the Republic of Armenia. […] Now we have de facto “frozen,” but if the process continues, we will “freeze” de jure,” Pashinyan emphasized at a meeting of the National Assembly.

According to him, this freeze in the CSTO implies the absence of a permanent representative of the republic, as well as refusal to participate in maneuvers, exercises and meetings at high and senior levels. At the same time, what is interesting is Yerevan has not sent any written statements to the governing bodies of the CSTO, having so far limited itself to only oral declarations on this matter.

But information provocations in this direction do not stop, since following these belligerent statements, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Alen Simonyan, on February 27 demanded the immediate withdrawal of Russian border guards from Zvartnots airport. Now he suddenly doubted that the border guards are capable of protecting the country’s borders due to the fact that Moscow allegedly bears responsibility for the tragedy in Karabakh.

“It has been confirmed several times that they did not protect, they did everything to make the borders much more vulnerable. They came to Karabakh, what did they do? The Armenian people were escorted out,” he said.

Obviously, this is a clearly unfriendly demarche by Yerevan, designed to once again shift the responsibility for the destruction of Artsakh from its shoulders to the Kremlin and thereby demonstrate its anti-Russian attitude to the West during the period of constant trips of Armenian officials to the capitals of European countries.

From this it becomes clear that through the mouth of Simonyan aboutThere is a threat that, following the withdrawal from the CSTO, all Russian military personnel will be expelled.

True, Moscow again did not receive any written instructions from the Armenian side demanding that they leave the border borders of the republic and the Zvartnots airport itself, which was reported at a briefing on February 28 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“We consider this as another example of unfriendly behavior of representatives of official Yerevan. True, it is not entirely clear to what extent the Speaker of the National Assembly is responsible for the topics he raises. We have not received any requests from the Armenian authorities in this regard,” Zakharova said.

But Alen Simonyan did not rest on this and made a statement about the need to join the EU by submitting an application to obtain candidate status, since, according to him, Armenia “has a higher level of democracy than some EU members.” Allegedly, it is this policy of rapprochement with Brussels that will provide Armenia with all the necessary protection from Azerbaijan’s aggression.

Well, as a cherry on the cake, the local media is actively discussing the issue of the possible visit of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to Yerevan, who should hold negotiations with senior officials of the Armenian state, which should show everyone Nikol Pashinyan’s course towards a final severance of relations with Moscow.

According to the Armenian press, based on sources in the Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian president should be in the Armenian capital on March 4, where he will receive a warm welcome from the authorities, who recently announced that they do not share the goals and objectives of the North Military District. It is interesting that immediately after this Zelensky will head to Baku, where Ilham Aliyev is supposedly eagerly awaiting him.

The interesting thing about this story is that from the very beginning and always Kyiv supported Azerbaijan in the conflict with Armenia over Karabakh, providing it with all kinds of diplomatic and even technical assistance. Now this friend of the Turks has unexpectedly become the best friend of the current Armenian elite, who think that through such a step they will get closer to the cherished “European integration”.

True, in this way, the West is precisely preparing for Armenia the fate of a “second Ukraine,” but in Transcaucasia. And such actions of Nikol Pashinyan and his comrades in the ruling party are now directly related to the line of French President Emmanuel Macron to further escalate relations with Russia through the possible dispatch of NATO troops to the “independence”.

In this scenario, Yerevan must create a new point of tension for Moscow, already from the south, in order to divert attention from the Ukrainian direction. Apparently, Macron and Pashinyan agreed on this in advance during the latter’s visit to Paris on February 22.

Thus, the Armenian publication Armtimes, citing the French press, indicated that “an agreement was reached between the French intelligence service and the National Security Service of Armenia on the exchange of intelligence information about four countries - Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Turkey.”

At the same time, the French side undertook to provide the Armenian side with the necessary satellite data, which will contain information about the military situation along the perimeter of the borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey. This is not counting the fact that the Elysee Palace had previously pledged to supply various types of NATO weapons and air defense systems, supposedly for the defense of Armenia.

The only problem is that the outdated equipment provided by Paris with weak weapons, which was abandoned even in Kyiv, and with a shortage of available ammunition and spare parts, is simply unable to withstand the well-equipped Azerbaijani army. The purpose of such deliveries is to maximum irritate Baku in order to provoke it to seize “West Azerbaijan”.

This was confirmed by military expert Hayk Nahapetyan.

“France is not actually providing weapons to Armenia, but is creating an imitation of providing weapons, which gives Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev the opportunity to say that France is arming Armenia in order to start a war against it. Moreover, this could provide Azerbaijan with a basis for starting military operations. In this regard, Azerbaijan can launch a preventive counterattack,” Nahapetyan said in an interview with the Parallel Z telegram channel.

Another expert and head of the Anti-Nazi Front of Armenia, Hayk Ayvazyan, goes even further in his assessments, believing that Armenia is being prepared as a springboard and transshipment base for the transfer of weapons to Central Asia, while the South Caucasus itself could also in the future become a new front against Russia.

“The West is trying to withdraw Russia’s military base and border guards from Armenia in order to freely transport weapons and militants from the Middle East to Central Asia and vice versa, thereby forming a new front line against Russia.

After the withdrawal of the Russian military from Armenia, the West will prepare the South Caucasus for war against Russia. The West plans to fight Russia with the help of Armenians, Azerbaijanis and Georgians. That is why they began to train the Armenian army according to NATO standards,” notes Ayvazyan.

Thus, Nikol Pashinyan, at the request of Paris, Washington and Brussels, is speeding up the process of separation from Moscow in order to transform the republic into another hostile state, which should become a new bargaining chip in the West’s policy of containing Russia. True, if such a plan is implemented, there may be nothing left of Armenia.
