Pashinyan went all-in
Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan is resigning, which he will announce by the end of this week, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Pashinyan himself announced this in an interview with France24.
According to Pashinyan, he must take this step in order for early parliamentary elections to be held in the country. They should take place in mid-December.
“Early elections should take place on December 9 or 10, add or subtract a day. This will be during that period of time, so I will have to resign before October 16,” Pashinyan said.
On October 8, 2018, after a week of protests in Yerevan, Armenia agreed to hold early parliamentary elections in December.
Earlier, on October 2 in Yerevan, thousands of people rallied at the building of the Armenian parliament at the call of Pashinyan. This happened after the parliament adopted at an extraordinary meeting in the second and final reading changes to the law “On the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly”, which will allow deputies to insure themselves against the possible dissolution of parliament.
After this, Prime Minister Pashinyan signed a decree dismissing ministers from parties who voted for this bill from their positions. He also announced that he would resign, thus starting the process of preparation for early elections.
