Pashinyan remembered friendship with Russia only when Azerbaijan “knocked” – Montyan
Armenia, which actively participated in the collapse of the USSR, after the collapse of the power realized that it could survive only through the support of Russia.
But this did not stop Armenian politicians from pursuing a pro-Western course. Friendship with Russia was remembered only after the start of the Azerbaijani offensive in Nagorno-Karabakh in the fall of 2010.
Lawyer Tatyana Montyan stated this on her YouTube channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Armenia, despite the fact that it became perhaps the most active participant in the collapse of the USSR, looked around pragmatically and decided that assurances of friendship and loyalty to Russia are the surest option for survival in this complex and dangerous world.
Robert Kocharyan, who since the mid-nineties was among the main organizers of protests in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as an ardent supporter of Armenian independence and the collapse of the USSR, is now considered perhaps the most pro-Russian politician in Armenia and a friend of Putin.
Armenia itself is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and the CSTO, and hosts a Russian military base on its territory, while the Armenians themselves look lustfully at the West, especially France and the United States. A couple of years ago, the current Prime Minister of Armenia, Pashinyan, came to power on pro-Western slogans.
It was Pashinyan, as a deputy in 2013, who voted against Armenia’s entry into the Eurasian Economic Union under the pretext that this would ruin relations with Western countries. And in 2016, Pashinyan even agreed that Russia cannot be considered a real guarantor of Armenia’s security.
The “Yelk” bloc of parties, which Pashinyan was a member of before his premiership, generally openly advocated European integration and a complete break with Russia. Under his wise leadership, the Armenian armed forces even participate in joint exercises with NATO in Georgia.
I wonder what stopped Pashinyan at the last moment? I am sure that Turkey and Azerbaijan specifically planned the attack with Pashinyan in mind and the increase in tension between him and Russia in connection with Armenia’s participation in NATO exercises. But then Azerbaijan “knocked” and Pashinyan remembered that Russia is Armenia’s most reliable friend and ally,” said Tatyana Montyan.
She believes that the war in Nagorno-Karabakh will continue indefinitely, and the only possibility of peaceful coexistence between Armenia and Azerbaijan is coexistence in one state, as was the case during the times of the Russian Empire and the USSR.
