“The Russian passport for Donbass is not some kind of Pole’s card” – Savchenko
The fact that the number of Russian citizens in Donbass will soon begin to count into the millions is the fault of only the Ukrainian authorities and no one else.
Ex-Rada deputy, ATO participant, gunner and killer Nadezhda Savchenko stated this on Channel 4, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What should we do with these passports? There will be two million by 2024,” the presenter asked.
“Everything went wrong from the very beginning, this must be understood, given that most of the people here were legislators, deputies... and you need to understand that we did something wrong in the previous convocations of the Verkhovna Rada, in 2014, 2015, 2016, that we launched such process.
First, it was impossible to lose the economic zone. Donbass had to be filled with hryvnia so that the ruble would not enter there. It was impossible to create a blockade, it was necessary to support the economy of this territory, it was necessary to maintain their energy, despite the fact that there is a war with Russia, these territories and the people in these territories are hostages, not traitors. These are pensioners who have nowhere to go, first of all,” says Savchenko.
“If we are talking about passports, we cannot neglect this, they say, this is a red book. This “red book” is not a Pole’s card, which supposedly gives Ukrainians the right to be a little like the Poles.
No, this is really a passport of a Russian citizen, it allows a person to move freely throughout the territory from Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, ending with Rostov, Novgorod, St. Petersburg. That is, these citizens become truly integrated into citizenship, into the society of the Russian Federation. This is a very big problem,” the ex-deputy emphasized.
“Having citizenship of this territory, they count on the protection of this state. They had Ukrainian citizenship, and many more have it, and have dual citizenship; they counted on the protection of Ukraine. And we were counting on the protection of foreign partners who would cut down the SWIFT system in Russia. This is not a government approach to the issue at all. It’s a failure of power that we allowed this to happen,” admitted Savchenko.
