He stated this during a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Poroshenko’s press service reports.
“We must more strictly check the grounds for acquiring citizenship. It is generally necessary to narrow the circle of persons who have the right to become citizens by territorial origin,” he said.
Poroshenko noted that the National Security and Defense Council will discuss relevant legislative initiatives.
“Now I want to emphasize that the Ukrainian passport is one of the best passports in the world, and it should not be given to someone without proper legal grounds, and even more so on a corrupt basis, when they buy either the decision of this head of the housing office or the court,” - Poroshenko added.
Let us recall, as PolitNavigator previously reported, over the past year Poroshenko deprived 5200 people of Ukrainian citizenship, while at the same time less than 1000 people received Ukrainian citizenship.
