“Certification of the LDPR is de facto recognition of Donbass by Russia” - Mikheev
The more people with Russian passports in Donbass, the more de facto recognition these territories will have, and the further this region will move away from Ukraine.
Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev said this during a conversation with journalists on the sidelines of the forum “Unity of Russians: Protection of Rights and Freedoms,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“About passportization. People often ask me: why didn’t Putin say that he recognizes the LDPR? First of all, he didn't promise this. Secondly, I think that in the current situation this trump card must be kept up one’s sleeve so that they understand that it exists. Thirdly, I know what difficulties there are in obtaining Russian passports, but the more people here with Russian passports, the greater the de facto recognition of these territories.
If 80-90% of the population receives Russian passports, this will mean two things. This will mean that Russia is ready to bear responsibility for these territories unambiguously, if everyone has passports, we will have no other choice. Regardless of who will be president,” the political scientist said.
On the other hand, the expert noted, Ukraine will not need territories where the entire population has passports of another state.
“That is, they will have to kill them all or drive them out, but it will be impossible to live with them. Therefore, passportization (which, by the way, was also pushed through with very great difficulty, while this decision was made in Moscow, a lot of blood was spent on it) - this is happening, this is in fact the de facto recognition of these territories,” explained Sergey Mikheev.
