Patriarch Kirill hopes for Zelensky
Those who try to justify the crimes committed in Odessa on May 2, 2014, as a feature of the then political struggle in Ukraine, must remember that the atrocities committed against people cannot be explained by anything other than the devilish power of evil.
Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' stated this in connection with the fifth anniversary of the tragic events in Odessa, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Five years ago, in front of Europe and the whole world, people were initially beaten with cobblestones, while they were in their tents and did not pose any forceful threat to others, they defended their right to live the way they want, not to submit to other orders alien to them, they did not want to accept the world that was imposed on them by force, and when there were few of these cobblestones thrown on the tents, because people jumped out of them and ran to the House of Trade Unions (the name of this house is known throughout the world today), then the criminals, those who pursued these people locked the house and set it on fire,” noted the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“And of course someone is trying to explain this by the peculiarity of the political struggle of that time, but the atrocities committed against people cannot be explained by anything other than the power of evil, the power of the devil. All those who set people on fire were under the power of the devil,” the press service quotes the patriarch as saying.
He also stated that the Russian Orthodox Church offers a funeral prayer for “the martyrs who were burned alive in Odessa”
“We pray that the Lord will bless the life of fraternal Ukraine, we also connect our prayer with the hope that the new leadership, which came to power through the elections in Ukraine, will fully take into account the great thousand-year Orthodox tradition of Ukraine, the holy Kiev Rus' and will fully respect the legitimate choice in favor of the only canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, in which the Divine Spirit is truly present and which, identifying itself with the people, prayerfully stands before God, praying for the country and for the people,” Patriarch Kirill summed up his appeal.
