“Currently, Ukraine has very tense relations with the Russian Orthodox Church. A number of its bishops - including, according to rumors, the Patriarch of Moscow himself - were included in the lists of persons who are prohibited from entering Ukraine. Our country has paid too much and continues to pay for the patriarchal project “Russian World”. “In Ukraine, many people – including Petro Poroshenko’s voters – are extremely irritated by the Patriarch of Moscow, the Russian Orthodox Church and Russian enclaves in Ukraine operating under church cover,” the publication says.
The publication believes that Patriarch Kirill’s letter to the new Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, sent without waiting for congratulations from Vladimir Putin, is an attempt to improve relations with the Ukrainian authorities.
As Navigator reported, on May 9, one of the prominent hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, was banned from entering Ukraine.
