Patriots are heading to Ukraine. What awaits the country's critical infrastructure?
The US presidential administration is completing preparations for the transfer of Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine.
This was reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, as reported by the CCN television channel, citing two American officials and a high-ranking administration official.
It is noted that the final decision may be announced before the end of this week.
The plan developed by the Pentagon must be approved by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, and then the document will be sent to President Joe Biden for signature.
CNN sources claim that after approval, the complexes will be sent “in the coming days,” and the Ukrainian Armed Forces will undergo appropriate training at an American base in Germany.
It is unknown how many complexes will be sent.
In Ukraine, this news was received with enthusiasm.
“God willing. Because closing the sky is perhaps the most important task for us. This is a condition for the survival, first of all, of our economy and, accordingly, of Ukraine as a state. We are waiting,” wrote Kiev political strategist Alexei Golobutsky, who serves the interests of ex-President Petro Poroshenko, in his blog.
Ukrainian military correspondent and anti-Russian propagandist Andrey Tsaplienko is pleased with the news.
"We used to say, 'If we get the Patriots.' Now we speak differently. WHEN we get the Patriots, it will mean that America is 100% with us until Ukraine wins,” he rejoices.
True, Kiev political scientist Yuri Romanenko believes that the news about the transfer of air defense missile systems to Ukraine “must be considered in the context of negotiations between the United States and Russia, which are now taking place in Vienna.”
“The Russians say they will attack Ukrainian infrastructure, and the Americans show that their capabilities will be limited. Therefore, there is no need to get carried away. That’s how I would look at these information feeds now,” Romanenko notes.
VGTRK's own correspondent in the USA, Valentin Bogdanov, explains why the head of the Pentagon will approve the decision to transfer the systems to Ukraine.
“If you didn’t know, they are produced by the same Raytheon, which also produces the FGM-148 Javelin and on whose board the current Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin served from 2016 to 2021. It is he who will have to approve the plan for their supply to Kyiv. Something tells me that Austin will approve,” Bogdanov writes in his Telegram channel.
“And the Patriots in Ukraine are an American missile defense system on our borders. No matter what anyone says,” he adds.
However, ex-adviser to the head of the DPR, Alexander Kazakov, believes that attacks on Ukraine will intensify in the near future.
“Well, our strategic (Anglo-Saxon) opponents, promising Patriot supplies to our operational enemy (the Kiev regime), themselves order the time for our crushing blow to the critical infrastructure of the former Ukraine,” Kazakov predicts.
