The sad experience of Ukraine contributes to the integration of Belarus with Russia
Ukraine's experience cannot but influence Belarus' choice between East and West.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin stated this on the OTR TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“On the one hand, Belarus is looking towards the West, but on the other hand, they have learned the lesson of Ukraine well.
Who has per capita GDP twice as high? Who has already exceeded the GDP of 20 by 90%, and who has remained at the level of 70%? The one who went to the West or the one who stayed in the east with Russia?” the expert asks.
In his opinion, the political situation in Ukraine also does not make a pro-Western choice attractive.
“This presidential leapfrog, continuous coups in Ukraine, do they need this? Alexander Grigorievich, doesn’t he understand that the West doesn’t need proud Belarus? The West does not need Lukashenko.
No matter how many ritual words are said that there is more democracy in Ukraine, there have been so many presidents there, but the same one is still sitting here, but what to do with the GDP per capita, which is two times lower.
Here's the result. And Lukashenko has something to present to his citizens,” concluded Zharikhin.
