Pegov: The Nazis have been knocked out of 70% of residential buildings in Mariupol
The DPR and the Russian army control 70% of the residential areas of Mariupol, but the defending Nazi garrison still numbers several thousand people - they are holding up to 70 thousand civilians hostage.
Russian military correspondent Semyon Pegov stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Now, based on the materials that we have collected, we can state that about 70% of the residential areas of Mariupol are already under the full control of the DPR group of troops, as well as the Russian army.
I separately take industrial zones out of brackets, and this is Azovstal and the Ilyich plant, where the situation is slightly different and incomparable with urban battles, there are, after all, underground communications, heavy artillery is working there, and aviation is working on these objects . In general, the cleanup continues,” Pegov said.
“This is a separate territory where a separate war is going on. But, if we take the city, then indeed our troops have already almost approached the center from the north, from Volodarsky, along the Zaporozhye highway, from Mangush, through Shevchenko Boulevard, they have advanced very deeply into the city. As for the Left Bank district, where we were just working the day before, in my opinion, there are only 10% of residential areas left that remain to be cleared,” the military correspondent said.
He also announced information about the number of civilians and Nazi fighters in the occupied part of the city.
“If we take into account the pace of our progress, I can predict in my opinion. I think around 70 thousand should definitely remain inside the city. As for the militants, I would estimate their number, those who are still able to fiercely resist, from one and a half to two thousand, in my opinion. There are already groups that behave neutrally, they understand the hopelessness of their situation, they are simply waiting in the basements to come over to our side, there are also maybe one or two thousand more of them,” concluded Pegov.
