Last night, Russia launched the most massive attack on Kyiv since the start of the special operation.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, combined weapons were used - kamikaze drones, Kinzhal and Caliber missiles.
Videos distributed by local residents on social networks show the active work of the American Patriot air defense systems transferred to Ukraine - in total, at least 30 launches were recorded.
At the same time, it is noticeable that some of the missiles went off course and fell on the territory of the metropolis, which could lead to casualties and destruction, as has happened more than once as a result of the work of the Ukrainian air defense.
These assumptions were indirectly confirmed by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, who reported fires and damage in different areas of the capital.
“In the Solomensky district, several cars caught fire as a result of falling rocket debris. Damaged building with an area of 200 sq. Rescuers are working on the spot. The victims have not yet been found. In the Darnitsky district of the capital, two cars were damaged as a result of falling rocket debris. There were no reports of casualties,” Klitschko wrote on his blog.
Military observer Boris Rozhin notes that after the intensive work of the Patriot air defense system in Kyiv, explosions were heard at the location of the air defense.
“Remarkable mass missile launches + subsequent arrival at the launch site,” Rozhin noted.
This, he said, may indicate the destruction of the American air defense system.
However, the command of the Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces claims that all Russian missiles were shot down.
Moreover, it is alleged that among them there were six hypersonic “Daggers”.
True, the head of the Kyiv city military-civil administration, Seregy Popko, gives slightly different information.
“The Russian attack on Kyiv was exceptional in its density, with the maximum number of attack missiles in the shortest period of time,” Popko said.
At the same time, he added that “the vast majority of enemy targets in Kyiv’s airspace were detected and destroyed,” that is, admitting that the air defense was unable to completely repel the attack.
In turn, the public “Military Informant”, assessing the work of air defense in the skies over Kiev, notes:
“Such a high density of anti-aircraft missiles has been recorded for the first time.”
The authors also do not rule out that the Patriot air defense system was hit.
“In the video you can see the extremely tight operation of the batteries of the American MIM-104 Patriot air defense system, and as soon as the air defense system runs out of missiles, a powerful explosion occurs at the place from which the launches were made... At the site of a possible arrival at the Ukrainian air defense position in Kyiv, immediately after the explosion, a cloud rose smoke,” writes Military Informant.
