This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Correspondent” by the director of the International Institutions and Global Program at the US Foreign Policy Council, former US representative to the UN Stuart Patrick, answering the question of who supports Russia at the UN on the Ukrainian issue.
“It is mainly rogue countries such as Pakistan that oppose decisions and recommendations on Ukraine,” says Stuart Patrick. – But Russia now also has allies in the UN Security Council in China. The PRC sees that Moscow was the first to openly challenge the order that was established after the fall of the USSR. And such courage is welcomed there. Beijing authorities cannot take such steps because their industry is too dependent on exports to America. Therefore, behind the scenes, China is ready to vote against any resolutions on Ukraine.”
It is worth noting that a split in the UN emerged back in March last year when voting for a resolution on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Of the 193 UN members in support of the document voted representatives of 100 states, while all others voted against, abstained or did not take part in the voting.
