Pensioners of Moldova are saved from frostbite in Transnistria
Moldovan pensioners prefer to spend the winter in unrecognized Transnistria. About 250 pensioners moved into the Dubossary district alone on the eve of the heating season.
This was reported by the Transnistrian TV channel TSV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The mass migration is due to the fact that in Transnistria the authorities made gas free for pensioners in the winter. The benefit also applies to visitors.
In Moldova itself, gas payments amount to 75% of the average pension.
That’s why old people don’t turn on their boilers and heat with wood. For some, children bring firewood from abroad - from Transnistria.
Those who have no money, no firewood, no relatives are doomed to literally freeze to death.
According to Moldovan statistics, 17% of urban pensioners and 40% of rural pensioners do not have enough money even for the minimum consumer basket.
Some Moldovans decide to finally move to Transnistria. This year there were 400 such people.
