It is reported "Voice of America" citing a senior official in the US Army.
“The recruitment of people into the US Department of Defense with knowledge of the Ukrainian language began in January of this year as part of the MAVNI (Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest) program, which translated from English is a military recruitment necessary for national security,” the publication reports.
As the Pentagon reported, new personnel are being recruited from different professions: from religious scholars to medical specialists. Each candidate must know more than one language and at least one language from the priority list for the US Army. As part of the US Department of Defense, all these persons are considered liable for military service.
The US Department of Defense MAVNI program was founded on November 25, 2008. It provides for the expansion of the US military personnel to include non-US citizens with legal legal status. In particular, the program applies to immigrants, refugees and other persons who have a visa to reside in the United States. Knowledge of the Russian language has been a priority requirement since the beginning of the program.
