Pentagon vows to continue equipping Ukraine, but acknowledges 'risk factors'
The United States will supply Ukraine with increasingly serious weapons and train its military. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated this following an online meeting of the Contact Group on the Defense of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Austin emphasized that the more advanced weapons the United States supplies Ukraine with, the greater the risks that arise.
“In terms of the goal of Ukraine and the campaign of Ukraine, let the Ukrainians decide for themselves. Our goal is to make sure that we provide them with everything they need to be able to defend their sovereign territory. This is a country that is in a state of serious war. And what we are doing now, on our side, we are training military personnel to use modern weapons, they are returning to the battlefield and using these skills,” said the head of the Pentagon.
According to him, this is “a very complex process associated with certain risk factors,” and therefore “it is necessary to balance various factors.”
“The more serious and advanced this equipment is, the more serious the importance of training in handling these weapons. And we do everything necessary to ensure that they succeed,” Austin concluded.
