The Pentagon explained: what the Americans mistook for a UFO was a test launch of a rocket.
On the night of Sunday, November 8, the US Navy conducted a test launch of the Trident II intercontinental ballistic missile off the southern coast of California.

The Pentagon released the corresponding message after Americans began to contact the police in connection with an unusual bright flash in the night sky over California, NBC reports.
“As part of the Navy's Strategic Systems Program, a Trident II missile was routinely launched at sea off the southern coast of California from the Ohio-class nuclear-powered missile submarine Kentucky,” said US Navy spokesman Ryan Perry. He added that “the missile was uncharged and launched from a submarine.”
It is noted that the rocket launch caused a strong reaction from US citizens on social networks. Users have come up with various theories about what it could be: a comet, a UFO or a huge shooting star.
A Navy spokesman said it does not typically announce missile test launches.
